A Tamagotchi for your iPhone
Remember the little egg on your keychain, the pixel pet you had to feed and check on all day? Boko brings that feeling to the phone you already carry.
Boko is a free Tamagotchi-style virtual pet app for iPhone and iPad. Your pixel pet walks in the Dynamic Island, waits on your Lock Screen and lives in your Home Screen widgets, so checking on it is a glance, just like it was on a Tamagotchi.
Boko vs. a classic Tamagotchi
| Classic Tamagotchi toy | Boko on iPhone | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it lives | A small egg-shaped toy on a keychain | The Dynamic Island, the Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets of your iPhone |
| Checking on it | Pick it up and press the buttons | Glance at the top of your phone; feed it or start a focus quest straight from a widget |
| Care | Feed it, play with it, keep it happy | Feed it, pat it, play 7 mini-games; hunger and happiness drop over time, slower at night |
| Growing up | It grows through life stages | It levels up with XP from fancy food and focus quests, and bonds closer the longer you care |
| If you forget it | On the classic toy a neglected pet could die | It never dies: a neglected pet runs away, and you can always win it back |
| Which pet | Whatever hatches | Pick from 36 cats, dogs and exotic pets, or turn a photo of your real pet into a pixel Boko |
| Extras | - | Focus timer quests, friends and their pets, 17 worlds to decorate, 54 hats, a daily puzzle |
The daily ritual, kept
Say good morning, feed it before it gets hungry, play a quick game, tuck it in at night. Your pet keeps living while the app is closed, so there's always a reason to check in, and a feed streak to keep going.
When you need to get something done, start a focus quest: your pet heads off on an adventure while you study or work, and comes back with XP, moons and sometimes a new hat.
Questions
Is there a Tamagotchi app for iPhone?
Boko is a free Tamagotchi-style virtual pet app for iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later), with no ads. Your pet lives in the Dynamic Island as a Live Activity, on the Lock Screen and in Home Screen widgets. Boko is an independent app, not an official Tamagotchi product.
Can I have a virtual pet in my iPhone's Dynamic Island?
Yes. Once you adopt a pet in Boko it runs as a Live Activity, so it walks in the Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro and later, and on the Lock Screen of any iPhone on iOS 17 or later.
Can my Boko die like a Tamagotchi?
No. If you forget it for a long time its hunger and happiness run low and it runs away, but it never dies and you can always win it back by caring for it again. Boko sends gentle reminders if you allow notifications.
Is a Tamagotchi-style app good for kids or for nostalgia?
Boko is cute, ad-free and gentle, so it works for both: people who grew up with a Tamagotchi and want that daily ritual back, and younger players looking after their first pet. It also has a focus timer that helps with studying.
Does it cost anything?
Boko is free to download and play, with no ads. An optional Premium subscription unlocks every world, the exotic pets, Premium hats and decorations, and Pet Tokens for custom pets made from a photo.
